"Playing with Mommy's Shoes" from MOBA
|
Part of my week focused on Massachusetts was spent flying to and from my home state for a doctor's appointment, and a full day was spent in decision fatigue regarding Boston. Decision fatigue is when the brain becomes overwhelmed from making, or trying to make, too many decisions. Routines can help ease the stress of too many choices, as the brain knows the order of operations and what comes next. Unfortunately, I have dropped most of my routines since starting this adventure, and have yet to establish new ones. This means that the pressure of making decisions about Boston in a timely manner and informing family so they could possibly join me in exploring Boston, was to much for my brain. So my brain "procrastinated" or refused to make any decisions all day. Only after taking a break to walk outside was I able to plan and choose what I would do in Boston.

Destroying tea
|
The first place I visited was the
Boston Tea Party Ships & Museum. Learning about the Boston Tea Party through a reenactment was interesting. My tour group calmly stormed a merchant's ship to toss boxes of "tea" into the river (and then haul it back for the next person to toss over). We also saw an empty tea box
that survived destruction (the boxes were heavily packaged and had to be broken open in order to toss the tea into the river), washed up on shore, saved, and hidden in a family's home
till after the Revolutionary War. The box and its story were passed down the
generations as a family treasure. The family also carved a game board onto the
bottom of it, painted flowers on the sides, and a litter of kittens
once lived in the box. Eventually, it was donated and is now on
display for visitors to see. It was really cool to learn aboutu and see the
history of that tea box. Unfortunately, no photos were allowed in that
part of the museum. They also had impressive digital technology
depicting two life sized 3D women walking around conversing and "Harry
Potter type paintings" of King George and John Adams moving and talking.
After the reenactment, visitors could go to the gift shop and buy some tea to drink at home.
After that museum, I walked around Seaport with its large holiday market and then
visited the
Museum of Bad Art. Currently located inside Dorchester Brewing Company, the MOBA
has a collection of "original art too bad to be ignored". The pieces
currently on display were all paintings, and their descriptions were
very interesting. Only a handful of paintings were on display, but more can be seen on their website.
